The Color Cage

Artist: Janus

Artist Profile:

Independent illustrator, born in 1993 in Guangdong.

Although not formally trained in an academic art program, Janus forged his own creative path through his keen artistic instincts and a distinctive sense of style. His inspirations are deeply rooted in classical painting, theater, and literature. His works often employ exaggerated, fantastical forms, and bold imagination to construct visually striking artworks that tell a story while also expressing strong fashion aesthetics.

His practice spans multiple media including digital illustration, textiles, and ceramics. Through exploring the interplay between the real and the fictional, he has gradually developed an expressive language that bridges traditional aesthetics with contemporary sensibilities.

Artwork Title: The Color Cage

Artwork Description:

On this three-dimensional Nervape 3x figure, I used bold, burning colors with rough, energetic lines. It’s not merely a play of colors—it’s a meditation on form and body, on the relationship between the flat and the three-dimensional. Here, the impact of two-dimensional imagery grows across the three-dimensional space. This allows the energy of the two-dimensional drawing to pierce the solid body of the figure.

It stands on the boundary between painting and sculpture, becoming a three-dimensional statement about the act of “seeing.”
